antiqued shimmer...

Hello all my wonderful friends!

Since Sweetstamps.com is sponsoring us here at Creative Inspirations Paint, I wanted to share a fun way to use the CI paints with one of my favorite Sweetstamps stamp... Cherie!

Now this adorable little girl has an old fashion air that seems to beg for an antiqued treatment.  One of my favorite ways to do that with stamps is to use embossing powder and acrylic paint. It needed some CI shimmer though, so I decided to mix things up a bit...

Ready to get some paint on those brushes?

What you need:
Creative Inspirations Paint
White acrylic paint
Stamp
Clear Embossing Ink
Creative Inspirations Black Deliquesce
Damp rag or paper towel

Step 1: Mix some Creative Inspirations Paint with some white acrylic paint.

*I can't give any exact ratios... not all acrylic paints are the same. The thicker art acrylics take a lot more CI paint, and end up with a subtler shimmer. The thinner cheap acrylics for crafts takes less CI paint and has a more intense shimmer in the end. You will need to play with the ratios depending on what you are using and what you want your end result to be.*

Step 2: Ink up your stamp with embossing ink and stamp like usual.

Step 3: Cover the stamped image with Black Deliquesce powder.
(don't forget to pour the extra back into the jar!)

Step 4: Heat emboss. Be careful not to over emboss! Once an area becomes shiny, move the heat.

Step 5: Cover the entire image with your CI/acrylic mix, and let dry completely.
(I usually do 2 layers of paint.)

Step 6: Take a slightly damp rag or paper towel, and rub over the image. This takes a little patience, and a bit of elbow grease, but the embossed image will resist the paint. Change to a fresh area of the rag often. You can clean off all the paint from the embossing, or leave some on for a more aged look.

Be sure to buff the background as well. Buffing will bring out the shimmer of the paint.
I love the subtle shimmer that this gives!  It works great on dark paper too!

Enjoy!

This has a wonderful vintage vibe, Kassi. THe little girl reminds me of ones you'd see on Victorian greeting cards. :)
